Water in basic need

Save Water's picture

Raipur faces very acute water shortage every year in summer similar is a story of all of India and many parts of the world. Raipur has just entered winter season leaving behind rainy season and ahead is the summer season ringing the bell of shortage of water in India. Why not think now about water planning below are some broad ideas:-

Water is a basic human need and a prime natural resource the distribution of water resources in the country is not uniform over space and time over 80 to 90 percent of the run off in Indian rivers occurs in four months of the year and there are regions of harmful abundance and acute scarcity.

The pressure on the availability of usable water is also mounting because of the finite nature of the supply and the ever increasing demand on it by a growing population aspiring to the higher standards of living.

Maximizing the availability of utilizable water with due regard to –

- harmony with nature and environmental sustainability
- taking an integrated view of water in all its form
- shortage areas in the India
- optimizing benefits and bringing about a more even and equitable distribution of these benefits
- ensuring the economical use
- due conservation of this increasingly scarce resource.

Above are among the objectives that need to be kept in mind in integrated water resource planning. Major attitudinal and organizational changes would be necessary to deal adequately with all the issues and concerns.
